Congrat's Chris

Hi all,

After a long nap and a couple of chocolate chip cookies...;-) I wanted to send a note to thank you for your donations to the MS150 Ride. We beat our goal and raised $1,260!!!

We rolled out Saturday morning at 8:00 and finished 65 miles under a partly sunny, overcast sky....PERFECT weather for a ride! The event was very well organized and SAGed with breakfast, lunch, & dinner provided. They had live muzak and Lisa's dogs were in heaven running about the grounds. The ride was beautiful, even made our way across the Georgia/Alabama state line for a few miles. The first 30 miles were gently rolling hills with about 1,000 ft elevation change but the remaining 35 were up and down with an elevation change of 2,000 ft. Needles to say, we crashed at the pool in the afternoon.

Today we rolled again at 8:00 and cruised through 25 miles under grey skies finishing just before some spitting rain started.

It was a great weekend but most of all because of your generosity we raised money to help our friends, family, and neighbors who suffer with MS.

Thank you for the support!!

Chris

A few photos from the Adirondacks, Mystic CT and Mount Gretna PA

After the show in Sryacuse, I spent a few days in the Adirondack nature preserve cycling and kayaking. This is one of the rivers I spent a few hours paddling along. This was one of the calmer of the rivers in the area. Such a nice way to spend the afternoon.

This truck is resting just outside a nursery in Niantic CT. I have been meaning to snap a photo for years and finally stopped my last day in the area. It's going to make a fun painting.
You never know what you are going to come across in Lancaster PA. Check out this Amish plowing team.
While out cycling in Mount Gretna, I came across the beautiful scenes. I think the one above will make a beautiful painting. It will be a challenge for me to capture the foggy atmosphere, but it invokes such a sense of peace, I have to give it a shot.
Cheers!

Wow! Sunset Oak has a new home as well

This is the Oak tree I photographed on Lake Pontchartrain after the Covington art show. A couple walked in my booth Sunday and just loved it. It turns out they are major art collectors in the area. Their art and their home is amazing and I am honored to be included!
Goodbye Sunset Oak. I am glad you found a good home.

Two more art shows up north. I hope they all go as well.

Cheers!

Dawn

Willow Tree has a new home!

I have enjoyed meeting Mary Ann and Herschel at the Mystic art show for the past 2 years. They are such a delight. Well this year they decided to take the Willow Tree back home with them. It was interesting trying to get the 6 foot painting in to their SUV but they let me know that they all arrived home safely. I love this painting and I am so glad it is going to a good home. Thanks!

I am off to Mount Gretna Pa for another show this weekend. If you find yourself in the area stop by and say hello. I will be in booth R108

Cheers!

Progress in the Studio 7/14

16 x 20 This is of an elderly woman crossing a suspension bridge across the Estero River. Think I am about done with this one. Below is a 36 x 48 painting also on the Estero River. The woman crossing the bridge, this was her boat and dock. I have truly been enjoying this painting!

36 x 48 painting of a garden gate we walked past in Rome. I still need to find out where. This one has been a lot of fun as well. I really like working in this size. Below is a 20 x 24 painting of the view from the Coliseum.

You can scroll down the blog to earlier stages of these paintings. This one is more of a challange that I would have thought. We'll see if it makes it.

Cheers,

Dawn

Art show award, garden tour and new job title.....

I just got back from the Helen Keller show in Tuscumbia. I had a great show. I sold 4 smaller framed paintings and 3 smaller unframed paintings. To top it off, I also won and award that came with cash. Always a nice surprise. The people who run this show are super nice and that makes for a relaxing weekend. The area is surrounded by water, so I even got a chance to get out on my new kayak!

Coming home from the show, I went through Scottsboro to do a little antiquing. I did not find any treasures this year. Since I was coming home from the north, I decided to stop in Adairsville and tour the Barnsley Gardens. The ruins of the old house and the formal gardens were well worth the trip. I think I can come up with a few good painting.

Now for the funniest part of my trip. While I was walking around the garderns, I got way off the beaten path where construstion was taking place. I was mistaken for an inspector and was asked to inspect this man hole. So, I checked out the brickwork and the concrete table for over flow. What fun!!!!!

Cheers, Dawn

Progress in the Studio 6/22

Well, I am make a little progress on my garden gate in Rome, Italy 36 x 48
This was just a side road we were walking down. I really need to find out the name.

The painting above 36 x 48 and below 16 x 20 are both from a canoeing trip down the Estero River near . I just loved the old boat pulled up on the dock. Below is a suspension bridge crossing the river to the boat dock. This one is quite different for me. It will be the first time I have put a person in one of my landscapes. I just could not resist including the ancient woman and her dog slowly making their way across. It will be interesting to see how I do.

This is a small commission piece I am working on. I am using a color photo for this since I have never been to the location.

Don't I wish my studio was so clean! I am house and pet sitting for my parents and set up a little studio in the laundry room. The dogs have been supervising. Always a great help! Cheers, Dawn

Photos from the Videre show.

We had a great turn out and lots of fun. The artwork keeps getting better and better. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. The show will be up through June 30. Please stop by and check out the great work.

Progress in the Studio 6/2

Now that I have finished my commissions, I have been tearing up the studio trying to produce my own work. Sales at the shows have been very good and that always gives me a lot positive energy to bring to the studio. Check out the results.

This is the tree I have been working on for while. As you can see, it has really changed. I hope to finish up this week.

This is a scene I came across while canoeing down the Estero River. I am really excited about this one. I just love the old boat pulled up on the bank.
Below you can see the black and white that I am working from.

This is a wonderful garden gate that Rob and I can across in Rome. We were trying to take a short cut to the coliseum, but it was a dead end. I am glad we to the walk, because this is going to be a fun painting.

Progress in the Studio 5/13/2009: Trees are in for the spring

Now that I have finally finished all of my commission work, I can once again focus on my work. I seem to have gravitated towards trees again. It is funny how a subject emerges. I am enjoying the loose format after the structure of 5 commission paintings.

This is from a large tree I photographed in Southern Louisiana while cycling on the Tammy Trace Trail. The overall size is 48" high by 68" wide. Below is the photo I am working from.

These are 2 10 x 10 Crape Myrtle - not quit finished.

Last but not least, 2 - 10" x 15" Oak trees - Finished!!!
